INTRODUCTION.
Local Hire is based in Radstock in North East Somerset, about 9 miles south of Bath on the A367.
We are well placed for people coming from South and East Bristol, North and East Somerset, Bath and west Wiltshire who are looking for a self drive van to hire. We offer vans in the same category as Transits and also Luton bodied box vans.

Our vans are rated up to 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight, so they can be driven by people holding a car driver's licence. Local Hire is a family-run business and our aim in business is to offer a service to our customers that makes them want to come back to us again. Before letting a van out on hire it will have been fully checked and prepared and it will be full of diesel. Our rates are competitive and reflect the service that we offer and the rates that are being charged in this area. We can only hire our vans for use in England, Wales and Scotland

HIRING A VAN
To hire a van, contact us by any one of the methods shown in the Contact Us section and we will take some details from you and reserve the vehicle for you in our Diary. We will then send confirmation details to you by 1st. Class post. You can change any of the hire arrangements, within reason and availability, up to 5.30pm of the day before you intend to take up the hire. If you need to cancel the hire arrangement, or change your mind and don't want to take up the hire, let us know by 5.30pm of the day before the booking and make sure that you get verbal confirmation that your booking is cancelled-ask for the name of the person you speak to. If you don't do this and don't turn up to pick up the van we will have to charge £25; this is to cover the loss from not having the van on hire.

When you arrive to pick up the van you must have with you your full driving licence which must include the paper part, if you have a photocard licence. We will also want to see another form of identity that confirms the address where you live or, if you are moving house, the address where you will be living.

Our insurance policy means that we can hire to drivers over 24 and under 70 years of age who have held a full U.K. driving licence for more than 12 months, with no more than 3 penalty points on their licence and no more than 1 accident costing less than £5000 in the last three years. We arrange insurance cover for each driver for each hire, by submitting the drivers' details to the Insurance Co. over the internet. If you fall outside these criteria you can still hire from us, but these are non-Standard arrangements and will take more time to set up, and if you are hiring outside normal office hours, we may not be able to set up the insurance and we would not be able to let you take the vehicle, so it would be as well to tell us if you are between 21 and 24 or 70 and 80 years of age, have more than 3 penalty points and details of the convictions and have had more than one accident in the past 3 years. Only in very extreme circumstances will you be refused insurance, but the daily premium is quite likely to be increased. The insurance cover is for 24 hour periods at a time. If you wish to extend the period of hire, simply phone us before the insurance period is finished so that we may extend the cover. Don't forget, if it is out of office hours, we may need time to open up the office to do this, so don't leave it too late!

At the present we can accept payment by cash or cheque, but we're not yet geared up to accept card payments. We will want you to leave a Security Deposit with us of £150, which will be refunded when the van is returned with no additional damage to it. A separate payment for the hire will be required. This amount will be arrived at when the insurance arrangements have been confirmed. Assuming that the insurance is straightforward, then the payment for hire will be as shown in our Rates List.

Having completed the formalities, we will invite you to inspect the vehicle and note any damage. Then we will show you the controls and any special points about the vehicle, after that you are free to drive the vehicle away.

PLEASE NOTE. It is standard practice to send our vehicles on hire with full fuel tanks. We expect our hirers to return them with full fuel tanks. To avoid any dispute on returning the vehicle, we strongly recommend that hirers obtain a receipt for the fuel from the filling station, as proof that they have done as we request. We may retain the Security Deposit should we suspect that the tank of a vehicle returned from hire needs refilling. A charge of £15, plus the cost of fuel is made in these circumstances.

RETURNING A VAN FROM HIRE.

As a general rule, we will arrange for you to be met when you return the van. At this point you would hand the keys to us and we will inspect it for condition and damage and ask to see the fuel receipt from the filling station where you filled the tank before returning the van.

Until we have received the keys and carried out the checks, the van is still your responsibility.

Don't forget that we have to clean and prepare the vehicle for the next hirer, who will expect to pick up the vehicle in the same condition that it was in when you took it on hire. If the van is in an exceptionall dirty condition inside or outside, we may retain the Security Deposit to cover the extra cost of cleaning.

With the van safely and satisfactorily returned, we return your deposit and thank you for your business.
