Q
Is the van full of fuel when I hire it?

A

 

Yes.
And we expect you to replace the fuel you use before returning the van.
There is a penalty to be paid if you do not do this.



 
Q
Who can drive the van?

A




All those drivers whose details are submitted for insurance and have been accepted.
Generally these are drivers who have held a full U.K. Driving Licence for more than 12 months, are between the ages of 25 and 70 years, have no more than 3 penalty points on their licence and have not had more than 1 accident costing more than £5000 in the past three years.



 
Q
What if I, or another driver, fall outside the criteria in the answer above?
A




As each hiring is a separate proposal to the Insurance Company, and if any driver does not comply with the Insurance Company's standard criteria then rather than refuse to insure the driver, the Insurance Company is more likely to accept them but charge more in premium.
How much more will depend on how different the driver's details are from the insurance norm.

Can I book the vehicle in advance and just pay when I collect it?
A


Yes.
We will take all relevant details by phone and when you collect the van we will merely have to check your Driving Licence and Proof of Identity and take your payment and security deposit.



   
Q
How much is the Security Deposit and what is it for?
A


The Security Deposit is £150 per vehicle.
It is our safeguard against a van being returned in such a condition that we have to put more work into preparing it for the next hirer than is normally acceptable.


   
Q
Under what conditions would you retain the Security Deposit?
A






We would retain the Security Deposit if the van has damage to the interior or exterior that was not noted before it was taken on hire.
If the van is excessively soiled on the outside - more so than would be expected in normal use; or the cab is littered soiled or stained, or the cargo area has received damage or is soiled or contaminated.
The Security Deposit will be used to defray the cost involved in putting these matters right, and any balance would be returned to the hirer in due course.

When can I collect the van?
A


We try to fit is as much as possible with our customer's needs and so we can usually arrange to be available to hire out a van from about 7.30 in the morning (except Sundays) up until about 8.00 in the evening.

When can I return the van?
A



Any time you like, but if it is outside of our office hours, which are usually 8.00am to 6.00pm and no arrangement has been made to meet you, then you will have to leave the keys for us, but you will still be responsible for the vehicle until we next open the office, including any insurance charges.

How long does the procedure to hire a van take?
A


When the driver is, according to the insurance criteria, Standard, the whole procedure takes only about 10 to 15 minutes


   
Q
What do I do if there is an incident involving the vehicle and another party when it is on hire?
A




Phone us at the first opportunity.
DO NOT admit any liability AT ALL to any one at the scene. Insist that the police attend the scene.
DO NOT allow any vehicle to be moved until you have noted the positions of all vehicles and parties involve.
TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE SCENE with the camera provided.

If the van breaks down, what do I do?
A



Heaven forbid that this should happen, but if it does you must phone us without delay, our office phone is diverted to a mobile when the office is unmanned. If we are unable to solve the problem, we will give you the necessary authority to call the R.A.C.
